Casino Capitalism: Letter to Hank Paulson from Ralph Nader

Click here for the 3 minute video:  Letter to Secretary of Treasury Paulson from Presidential Candidate Nader

Presidential Candidate Ralph Nader asks Paulson to donate $200 million of his own money for the Wall Street Bailout, rather than taxpayers paying for this mess. Paulson made 1/2 billion when he left his position as CEO of Goldman Sachs in 2006. Hmmm…..

Health Benefits of Yoga

From an ABC news article (cited below): Medical studies show the poses, along with meditation and specific yoga breathing techniques, reduce stress responses, which significantly influences health.

“There are specific areas of the brain that have been shown to change with advanced yoga and meditation practitioners. These areas of the brain are those areas that deal with the control or the ability to self-regulate emotion, the ability to maintain attention,” said Harvard Medical School assistant professor of medicine Sat Bir Khalsa. “And so if you put these practitioners in the brain scanner, you can see that these areas of the brain light up more than other areas of the brain.”

Peak Oil – The Party’s Over

Richard Heinberg has written an excellent book called The Party’s Over: Oil, War, and the Fate of Industrial Societies, which I highly recommend.  The video clip below will give you a brief overview of what he discusses in the book.

Ralph Nader on Wall Street Bailout

“This is where corporate capitalism fails and it makes socialism bail it out.” – Ralph Nader

VIDEO Ralph Nader on Wall Street Bailout

Nader’s solutions:

1. Reinstitute comprehensive federal legislation of the financial industry

2. Empower shareholders, so that they have a say on risks the financial execs take and the salaries they give themselves

3. Full disclosure in terms of what people are asked to invest their money in

4. If asked to bail them out, we ask taxpayers should have an equity share if they recover (that’s what happened with Chrysler in 1979)

5. Have a security speculation tax and higher margin accounts (which creates more realistic speculation, and less risk taken with other people’s money)

6. Criminal prosecution of the crooks – this would also enable our prison system to improve since executives with power would create better conditions and food options

7. Private watchdog group

Interview with Human Rights Hero

Interview with Father Roy Bourgeois founder of the School of the Americas Watch (www.soaw.org). If you have a bit of time, I highly recommend watching this video.

Bourgeois talks about his experiences in Latin America and explains his reasons for leading a movement to close down the U.S. military’s School of the Americas at Fort Benning, Georgia.  This school trains Latin American soldiers to kill, torture and suppress the people of Latin American countries.  Graduates include the former dictator Hugo Banzer of Bolivia; the former Panama military dictator Manuel Noriega, and others with notorious records for massacres of innocent people.

Social Isolation Makes People Cold, Literally

Check out this article

They chalk it up to the initial connection with a warm mother when we’re babies.  Hmpf, maybe.  But I think it has to do with our prana, our vital life force and energy.  We are affected by other’s energy, and they by our energy – we are electrically connected.  This is not fluffy; this is scientific.  I think when we are alone for too much time our life energy dissapates a bit.  Our chakras don’t spin as fast.  Literally, we are wired as social, emotional beings.

A good book to read that touches on some of this is A General Theory of Love.

So get warm and cozy with someone and stay healthy!

Express yourself for good health

Significantly, “research has shown that people who give vent to their negative emotions survive adversity better than those who are emotionally constricted…Unexpressed feelings depress your immune response.”

- Dr. Bernie Siegel, MD, from his book: Love, Medicine and Miracles: lessons learned about self-healing from a surgeon’s experience with exceptional patients

This emphasizes how important it is to share emotions, both positive and negative, in order to stay healthy. Studies have linked cancer with those who repress their emotions for many years. So express yourself!
